5 Reasons Why You Should Stay at Sé Boutique Hotel in Funchal on Madeira

Share

Are you planning a trip to Madeira in Portugal? Looking where to stay? Then you should consider the fabulous Sé Boutique Hotel.

During the period late December 2020 to early January 2021, I traveled with my fiance to the beautiful Madeira Islands located in the Atlantic Ocean about 520 kilometres from the African coast. Madeira Islands are part of Portugal and the archipelago consists of small islands with the two main inhabited islands Madeira and Porto Santo.

I have been to Madeira before when I was 16 years old so this was actually my second time visiting this beautiful place. The latest 2-week trip to Madeira has a very special place in my heart since I got engaged on the top of the Pico Ariero.

Here is my experience with staying at the Se Boutique Hotel in Funchal, Madeira.

1) The Rooftop Terrace

The first time I saw a picture of the rooftop terrace of Sé Boutique Hotel I knew I have to stay at this fabulous boutique hotel. It’s in my opinion the most beautiful and unique rooftop terrace on the island.

The rooftop terrace has a stunning 360 ° view over the city of Funchal. Furthermore, you can observe in detail the tower of what is the most emblematic work of the Manueline period built on the island of Madeira – the Cathedral of Funchal.

My most favourite thing about the rooftop is the lovely and unique decoration with many flamingos!

2) Location

One of the top reasons you should stay at Sé Boutique Hotel is the location.

The stylish hotel is located in the heart of the capital city, Funchal, right next door to the 16th-century Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption. It has a strategic location within an easy reach of the city’s biggest attractions, just a few minutes from the historic area of Funchal, the Mercado dos Lavradores, the Cable Car, and the Marina.

What’s more, the hotel is a perfect base for exploring the whole island. My recommendation is to hire a rental car and drive around the island. There are many interesting places to see across the island, especially amazing hiking trails if you are a fan of hiking.

3) Breakfast Included

Another great advantage of staying at Sé Boutique Hotel is the delicious breakfast. Breakfast offers local hams and cheeses, delicious bread, a selection of sweet pastries including the tasty Pastel de Nata – an iconic custard tart, scrambled eggs with bacon and beans, fruits from the island, and much more.

4) The Rooms

All rooms are very cosy, comfortable and modern. I stayed in the junior suite and loved every minute of my stay. What I enjoyed the most, is the mix of wood floors with grey-blue fabrics and a patchwork of blue and white tiles which frame the bed. The patchwork takes inspiration from the cathedral of Funchal. There are coffee and tea machines in every room. All our rooms combine modern, sober, and elegant decor. All rooms are equipped with coffee and tea machines, air conditioning, large smart TV, Mini Bar, and Wi-Fi.

5) The Staff

All staff is very friendly, professional and always willing to help. During my stay I could always contact the staff with questions about the hotel or activities all around the island. They were very helpful.

My stay was really lovely. If I ever get the chance to return, I will definitely choose to stay at Boutique Hotel Sé again.
